If you have access to the technology, there are two ways you can stream live video of your Alaei Day vigil and have it appear on the virtual vigil page with the other video streams that we have available.
- Use a video enabled phone in conjunction with Qik.com.
- Use a laptop and webcam over a broadband connection in conjunction with Ustream.tv.
It is a very good idea to test your streaming setup, to make sure you can get it to work, before you try streaming from your vigil. There may be complications, depending on your equipment, your internet connection and other factors. PHR will not be able to provide technical support.
Instructions for Video Enabled Phones and Qik.com
- Check to see if your video phone is supported by Qik.com.
- Go to http://d.qik.com on your phone browser.
- Select your phone model to download qik.
- Launch qik application.
- Click “New User” to create an account.
- Hit the “Stream” button to record and stream your video.
- Hit the same button to stop recording/streaming.
- To share your video stream with people at the Virtual Vigil, leave us a comment with your Qik username and vigil location you are streaming from.
Instructions for Laptops with Webcams and Ustream.tv
- You will need a wifi enabled laptop or a broadband card that works over a cellular network.
- If you want to rely on wifi, make sure that you have access to a wireless network at your vigil location.
- Sign up for an account on Ustream.tv.
- Login into your Ustream account.
- Click on “Your Shows.”
- In the right hand column, under “Create a New Show,” enter a name for your video stream and click the “Create” button.
- Make sure your webcam is connected and that your laptop is connected to the internet via a wifi or cellular network.
- Click on the “Broadcast Now” button to start streaming (you may need to adjust the settings for everything to work right).
- To share your video stream with the people at the Virtual Vigil, leave us a comment with your Ustream username, the name of your show and the vigil location you are streaming from.
Thanks! We look forward to seeing you at the Virtual Vigil.
